Either way, you meet them up at a shrine obviously, training and the like. They are the top students of their class and apparent jealousy amongst their peers is easy to see. You stay the night to rest since the head priest has allowed you to. The next day the shrine’s most prized statue is destroyed and what is left at the scene is Fact’s (lol) fan or some sort of object used during practices that of martial arts or religious practices.
It’s not true of course but evidence is pointing it all on them and thus they go out of their way to try their prove themselves that they didn’t do it. And it turns out that one of the top ranked students who rival him/her had done it to get them expelled from the temple. A battle happens and you win with Fact joining up with you on your journey saying they had permission from their master to accompany you and learn about Nippon. etc etc etc
